Building a ‘Psychologically Informed Environment’ (PIE)
This is a self-contained training session which introduces and explores the ‘Psychologically Informed Environments’ (PIE) model. It highlights the key principles and features of this innovative approach, and includes workshops where we discuss how this model may be applied to individual practices and systems.
It highlights existing evaluation findings and observations, and invites discussion around causation behind each finding. It explores the key factors of a PIE model:
· Using a psychological framework to inform all client work
· Consideration of the physical environment and availability of reflective spaces
· Staff training and regular support structures and practices
· Focus on nature and quality of relationships
· Ongoing evaluation
The interactive approach then invites discussion around the correlation between each of these factors and how they complement each other to bring about personal empowerment and change, and goes on to explain the mechanisms that link all five.
This is an introductory session aimed at stimulating dialogue and understanding around the fundamental principles essential in a PIE model, and also for exploring any potential existing strengths, weaknesses, solutions and ways forward in progressing such an approach. It is an ideal ‘primer’ for organisations and practitioners seeking to gain a greater understanding of the PIE model and way of working.
